For this month’s 30 Days, I’ve decided to mix it up and rather than just focus on one single product as I have done for the previous editions, introduce you to my summer hero pieces.
What is a hero piece? To me, it’s something that you love, something that makes you feel good when you wear it. Fashion mags may repeat the phrase ad nauseum and try to convince us that our summer wardrobe will not be complete without that jacket/playsuit/dress. A lot of my non-fashion friends often stare in puzzlement at the stock in shops and ask me how on earth they’re meant to wear any of it. So I’ve decided to show you MY summer heroes and on a normal person.
Let me explain what I mean by normal. I have been on both sides of thin. Throughout my university time, I was a walking, talking lollipop; I loved having jutting hip and cheek bones and it was great. Except for the fact that my mother was convinced I was anorexic (I wasn’t, I just had an amazing metabolism). Now, sitting in an office for the last four years or so, my body has filled out and I am what many would consider ‘normal’. I have curves, boobs and a little bit of a belly when I forget to suck it in. I will be the first to admit that not everything is going to look good on someone of my shape but I am always willing to try. After all, that’s what fashion should be about: having fun and experimenting with new looks.
Plus, I’ll be wearing flat shoes with pretty much all of it because I don’t believe all of the hype that leads normal sane women to believe that you can run for a bus, do the weekly shop and other normal activities without breaking a leg.
So, without further ado, let’s begin…
