DAY NINE: Black cotton maxi dress, New Look
Summer after summer, I have resisted the maxi dress trend but this year, something in my sartorial senses snapped and suddenly, I find myself to be a convert with several crammed into my exploding wardrobe. Maybe it’s the fact that getting dressed takes about five seconds and on days like today when the weather seems to chop and change every ten minutes, they’re the perfect solution – cool when the sun comes out and offering leg protection when the clouds and wind suddenly appear.
Rather than go for the floaty fuller floor length skirts, I tend to go for slightly more fitted styles such as this black one from New Look which after a wash or two has shrunk down to a very nice ankle grazing length. Admittedly, I’m having a bit of a fat day so hence the silk waistcoat to hide some of my protruding belly and the belt to detract from lumpy bits as well as breaking up the column of black. I blame last night’s fajita feast.
Worn with: Black silk waistcoat, Baby Ceylon; Studded double-wrap belt, Topshop; Gold sandals, Topshop; Yellow satchel, Asos; Glide Aviators, Ray-Ban
